Xiaomi's Mi Mover App to Help Transfer Data From an Old Device

Xiaomi on Thursday at the Redmi Note 3 India launch announced its new Mi Mover app. The new app from Xiaomi helps move apps and data from an old device to a Mi Phone.

The Mi Mover app supports multiple datasets, such as contacts, messages, photos, music, videos, documents, installed apps, and other data. It can be paired with another device using a QR code which helps transferring data instantly.

Detailing the features of the Mi Mover app, Xaiomi’s Global VP Hugo Barra said that the app supports connection speeds of up to 6MB/s and claimed will be even faster than restoring data from cloud backup. During the transfer process, the new device will act as a Wi-Fi hotspot. For security, Xiaomi added that the two devices will be connected directly so the data won’t be exposed to any third party apps or phones. The Mi Mover app is now available to download via Google Play.

The Chinese company unveiled the Qualcomm-based Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 smartphone which will be available in two RAM and storage versions – one including 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage, and other 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The 2GB variant is priced at Rs. 9,999, while the 3GB variant is priced at Rs. 11,999. It will be available from Wednesday via Mi.com, and Amazon.in. It will go on sale on Flipkart and Snapdeal at a later date.

Xiaomi at the Redmi Note 3 India launch also confirmed that the Mi 5 flagship smartphone will be “coming to India in a month.” Xiaomi’s Global VP, Hugo Barra, during the event stressed that the team in India is trying to get the handset here “in a month” without specifying an exact date.
