Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite Price, Specifications, Design Spotted Online Ahead of July 24 Launch

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mi A2 Lite might be a rebranded version of Redmi 6 Pro
  • Both were spotted on a Polish online retailer’s website
  • Launch is expected in Spain in July 24

Xiaomi Mi A2 is expected to make an appearance at the company’s global event in Madrid, Spain on July 24. A recent development reveals that the Mi A2 Lite will also accompany the regular Mi A2 on its trip to the European country. Both upcoming mid-range Xiaomi smartphones have been spotted on a Polish retail website. The listings reveal certain specifications and design rengers of both the handsets. Let’s have a look at what we can expect at the July 24 launch event.

In a couple of listings on Polish online retailer X-Com’s portal, the Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite have been listed. While the images from these listings seem to have been taken down, Slashleaks has obtained the renders. The most interesting part of this leak is the design of the supposed Mi A2 Lite resembles that of the Redmi 6 Pro. Both smartphones appear to have the same-sized display notch, a 5.84-inch 19:9 display, and similar antenna placing on the back panel. Other specifications such as a 4,000mAh battery, Snapdragon 625 SoC, 4GB RAM, and 64GB inbuilt storage also match.

The Slashleaks post suggests that the Mi A2 Lite will sport a vertically stacked 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel camera combo on the back, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The back panel, in the render, has Android One branding. It thus appears that the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite might just be a rebranded Android One variant of the Redmi 6 Pro.

As for the listings procured from Poland, both the 32GB variant of the Mi A2 and the 64GB variant of the Mi A2 Lite have been given the same price tag of PLN 999 which roughly translates to about Rs. 18,400.

Talking about the Mi A2, several details have been leaked in the past few weeks, including the claims that it might be an Android One-based rebranded version of the Mi 6X. It is expected to sport a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and no display notch. It will most likely be fuelled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/ 64GB/ 128GB of internal storage.

Xiaomi Mi 7 and 8th Anniversary Edition Phone Tipped to Launch in May; May Be Called Mi 8 Instead

Xiaomi Mi 7 and 8th Anniversary Edition Phone Tipped to Launch in May; May Be Called Mi 8 Instead

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mi 7 and 8th-anniversary edition smartphones expected
  • Xiaomi may unveil Mi 8 to align with its anniversary
  • New smartphone may have 3D facial sensing

Chinese mobile maker Xiaomi is expected to launch the successor to its premium Mi 6 smartphone this year. Xiaomi fans were expecting a Mi 7 handset to be launched at MWC 2018, but that did not happen, and the company went on to unveil the Mi Mix 2S in March. However, the latest leaks suggest that Xiaomi will launch the smartphone later this month. Interestingly, reports also suggest that the company either launch two smartphones this year or will reportedly skip its Mi 7 branding to go for just Mi 8.

As per a MyDrivers report, Xiaomi will launch two handsets in May 2018. While one of them is said to be the Xiaomi Mi 7, the other is said to be the firm’s 8th-anniversary edition. The leak claims that the special edition will be the highlight of the launch event. The new smartphone dubbed as the 8th Anniversary Edition phone is rumoured to be unveiled by the end of this month, and it may come with 3D facial recognition feature like the one present in Apple iPhone X. According to the report, it will be the first Android smarphone to feature 3D facial recognition. Similar to the Mi 7, Xiaomi’s 8th Anniversary Edition phone is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 coupled with 8 GB of RAM.

Coming to the nomenclature, Mocha RQ, a blogger in China wrote on microblogging site Weibo that Xiaomi will skip the Mi 7 name in favour of Mi 8. Chinese firms are usually obsessed with numbers. It is reminiscent of the time when another Chinese manufacturer OnePlus had skipped a OnePlus 4 smartphone because the number ‘4’ is considered unlucky in China. The blogger explained that Xiaomi wants the name to align with its 8th anniversary. Also, the blogger added that the handset will be announced in May this year.

To recall, another report in April claimed that Xiaomi may, in fact, be one of the first brands to unveil a handset with 3D facial sensing with the launch of the latest Mi flagship. The report had also claimed that Xiaomi’s plans to launch the smartphone with a Snapdragon 845 SoC in the first quarter this year have been delayed. Instead, the smartphone might see an unveiling after the third quarter.

In terms of specifications, the company CEO has already hinted that the Mi 7 will come with an under-display fingerprint sensor. Additionally, reports have suggested that the phone will come with 6GB RAM and Android 8.0.0 Oreo.

Xiaomi Mi Crowdfunding Launched in India: Here’s How it Works

Xiaomi Mi Crowdfunding Launched in India: Here's How it Works

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Xiaomi brings crowdfunding platform to India
  • It will sell “innovation-driven” products using consumer’s support
  • Offer currently available on two products

Xiaomi on Wednesday launched a new programme in India called ‘Mi Crowdfunding.’ With the new feature, users will be able to help the Chinese manufacturer in deciding which products it should release in India. Xiaomi will keep posting a curated list of “innovation-driven” products that it will sell only when a certain number of people are interested. If a particular product fails to meet the criteria in a set timeline, the product will not be shipped and the customers will get their money back. The crowdfunding platform has been launched as part of the Xiaomi Mi Fan Festival, which will run from April 5 to April 6.

As of now, Xiaomi has put up two products that it is planning to bring in India, on its dedicated webpage. The first product is the Mi Selfie Stick Tripod, which the company has priced at Rs. 1,099. It is a selfie stick and tripod combined into one unit and comes with a Bluetooth shutter remote. It is equipped with Bluetooth 3.0, meaning it will support smartphones running Android 4.3 and higher, and iOS 5.0 and higher.

Next is the Bluetooth Audio Receiver that has been priced at Rs. 999. The device, meant to provide wireless music, comes with a single key function that turns on the earphones, connects to Bluetooth, plays and pauses music, and answer calls as well. It is available in a White colour variant.

To use the Mi Crowdfunding feature, first, you will have to select the product and click on ‘Support now’ to place your order. Following this, you can use any preferred online payment mode and pay within the defined timeline on the payment page. You will be able to come back anytime to check the project progress. Notably, a project is considered successful once the bar reaches 100 percent in the defined timelines. Also, in case you change your mind, you can cancel the order before it ships out.
