Olympics marathon runner OP Jaisha tested positive for H1N1 on Thursday and has been admitted to Fortis Hospital in Bengaluru, reported PTI. Sports Authority of India regional director Shyam Sunder said it was an “arduous task” to convince Jaisha, who returned from Rio with fever and body ache, to go for the tests.

Director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases, the state-run institute where Jaisha finally underwent tests on Wednesday, Shashidhar Buggi told The Indian Express that they started giving her Tamiflu, the anti-viral drug for H1N1. SAI Regional Director Sunder was quoted by The Hindu as saying, “Our Senior Scientific Officer SR Sarala is in communication with the hospital. Jaisha will be treated there.”

Jaisha had competed in the women’s marathon in Rio Olympics. She is the second Olympian after Sudha Singh to be suffering from swine flu. Singh was Jaisha’s training partner as well as roommate in Rio. Doctorstold NDTV that their third roommate Kavita Raut was also displaying similar symptoms to theirs.

Earlier, the 33-year-old, who competed in the women’s marathon in the Olympics, had accused the Indian officials in Rio of neglect and alleged that they did not provide her with water or energy drinks during the 42-km race. Officials, however, have refuted the allegations.
