All of the Performing Arts have a variety of avenues to be involved in them professionally. When most people ask this question they are thinking of the rarefied set of performers who become famous. But there are many other roles that are not in the spotlight. From backup singers, to off-Broadway to community theater, to jingles and commercials, to choir director, to vocal coach, and probably more that I can’t think of right now.
So part of answer depends on what is your definition of success?
If it is a true passion, go for it. At worst you try and learn and pursue something else. You may learn of new opportunities you weren’t aware of. Not trying will only lead to regret later – the greatest regrets are over opportunities not pursued.
