Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ Listed on 3C Certification Site; 15W Fast Charging Support Expected

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The listed variants have a 9.0V output at 1.67A (15W)
  • Fast charging standards have remained constant since the Galaxy S6
  • All variants are expected to come with dual SIM support

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are the talk of the town with an impending launch next month. While there are still a few weeks before we witness their official unveiling, the Galaxy S9 duo’s design, specifications, and features have been outed multiple times through different sources. The latest report comes from Chinese certification website 3C where both the variants have been spotted. According to the listing, the upcoming phones are expected to retain fast charging capabilities from last year.

As we mentioned, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ with model numbers SM-G9600, SM-G9608, and SM-G9650 were spotted by DealnTech on the 3C certification website. The report claims that SM-G9600 is the Chinese variant of the Galaxy S9, SM-G9608 is the Taiwan variant of the Galaxy S9, and the SM-G9650 is the Galaxy S9+. According to the listing, all three models will come with fast charging 9.0V output at 1.67A (15W) and standard charging 5.0V at 2.0A (10W).

Recent reports had also suggested that the upcoming Galaxy S9 duo will sport the same battery capacities as the Galaxy S8 series. The Galaxy S8 has a capacity of 3000mAh, while the Galaxy S8+ is backed by a 3500mAh battery under the hood.

Apart from that, the listing also shows that all three models have the DS labelling which refers to “dual-SIM”. An interesting thing to note is that the standard of fast charging remains unchanged since the Galaxy S6, which was launched with the 15W output.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. Recently, reports pointed towards the usage of a new Y-Octa display technology on the phones. Additionally, the Galaxy S9 duo is also expected to feature an f/1.5 aperture lens.

The Galaxy S9 series is slated to launch at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona. According to Evan Blass on Twitter, pre-orders will start on March 3 with availability from March 16.

iPhone 8 Plus Allegedly Splits Open While Charging, Apple ‘Looking Into’ Reports

iPhone 8 Plus Allegedly Splits Open While Charging, Apple 'Looking Into' Reports

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Only two cases have been reported so far
  • iPhone 8 Plus battery being blamed
  • Apple is “looking into” the issue

Apple is said to be investigating two reported cases of iPhone 8 Plus ‘splitting open’ thanks to swollen batteries, which have been circulating on the social media. The news comes merely few days after the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus went for sale in several markets. Reports have emerged from Taiwan and Japan.

Apple has confirmed that it is “looking into” the two reports where the iPhone 8 Plus casing opened up, according to The Independent. For now, the Cupertino-based giant declined to further comment on the issue. It’s not certain what caused the problem, and it’s being thought to be a battery failure, which causes it to swell up.

A Taiwan-based report by ifeng, shared by The Next Web, last week claimed that a iPhone 8 Plus unit cracked open while charging, possibly due to a swollen battery.

ifeng claims that iPhone 8 Plus faulty battery was reported by a woman named Wu, who renewed her phone contract and bought 64GB Rose Gold iPhone 8 Plus. Wu noticed the swollen battery five days after purchase when the handset was plugged for charging. Notably, the faulty iPhone 8 Plus battery issue has been reported by Wu who was using the bundled charger and adaptor. The report adds Wu noticed the front panel bulging out just after three minutes of charge, and it finally came completely off from the device. The report claims that the iPhone 8 Plus unit was replaced and has been sent to Apple for investigation.

In another similar incident, a Japanese iPhone 8 Plus user noticed the screen eventually detaching from the chassis possibly due to swollen battery issue. The Japanese user shared images of the faulty unit on Twitter which attracted over 14,000 retweets.

For now, there are just two reports of isolated incidents, so it’s best to wait for the results of the company’s investigation into the issue before jumping to conclusions about the iPhone 8 Plus, and possible similarities with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which was recalled last year due a fire hazard related to the battery.

Google Photos Removes Option to Backup Media Only While Charging

Google Photos Removes Option to Backup Media Only While Charging

HIGHLIGHTS
The option allowed devices to perform backup only while charging
Users still have the option to stop backup while on cellular data
The option is said to still show up for some people
Google Photos app for Android and iOS has quietly removed the feature that allowed devices to backup images and video files only while charging the device. Users could earlier choose this option to ensure that the backup of media files doesn’t end up draining their device’s battery life but it seems like the search giant has now removed the option without any explanation for why it did so.

While Google Photo users still have the option to switch off backup of media files while on cellular data, they can no longer add the constraint related to charging. As you might expect, this feature was extremely beneficial as it made sure that the backups were only performed when the device was in proximity to a power source and was not running short of juice.

As pointed out in a 9To5Google report, with the release of version 2.17 for Android and 2.18.0 on iOS, this option in the backup settings within the Google Photos app was removed.
The While charging only option is currently not visible with any of our devices, on both platforms, but 9To5Google says that there is a minority that can still see the option available. Interestingly, the option cannot be seen on company’s help page for Google Photos backup settings as well.

Notably, the option to switch off media backup while on roaming is still available within the Google Photos app. Users can always switch the cellular data option off and as Wi-Fi is usually available at either homes or offices, which usually have easily accessible power sources too, they will still be saved from battery drain. However, an extra option at your disposal is something nobody ever complains about – hope you’re listening Google.

Apple reportedly looks into making electric powered automobile charging stations

Any electric vehicle maker really worth its salt knows that their motors are most effective as precise as the charging stations that preserve them going for walks… and that consists of Apple, seemingly. Reutersresources remember that Apple is asking charging station manufacturers approximately their era for the sake of its oft-rumored electric vehicle mission. it is not sure how deep the talks move or who is worried(the businesses certainly are not speakme). however, NRG strength issued a vague reaction noting thatit’s speaking to “each capacity manufacturer of day after today.” We would not rule it out, then.

there may be extra proof than that. An unnamed international engineering organization has alreadypresented to help Apple construct charging stations, Reuters says. meanwhile, Apple has publicly hired EV charging professionals from BMW, Georgia Tech and Google.

If true, the approach is a logical match for Apple. part of Tesla’s success in EVs comes from its willingness to construct a community of highvelocity charging stations — you’re much more likely to shop for amodel S in case you realize that you can pressure it long distances without spending hours expecting a recharge. Apple might also need that equal form of reassurance. And let‘s no longer neglect that Apple’sapproach revolves around controlling as a whole lot of the enjoy as feasible. It handiest makes sensethat the organization could want optimized charging stations rather than leaving drivers to apply normalstations that may not work as effectively.
