iOS 11.0.3 Update Released: Fixes Audio, Haptic Bugs for iPhone 7 Users and More

iOS 11.0.3 Update Released: Fixes Audio, Haptic Bugs for iPhone 7 Users and More

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Apple has released iOS 11.0.3, the third update since iOS 11 release
  • iOS 11.0.3 addresses two issues that some users were facing
  • Apple has not addressed several other issues users have reported

Apple on Wednesday released iOS 11.0.3, the third update since it released iOS 11 to the public last month. Being a point update, iOS 11.0.3 doesn’t bring any new features, but it does offer several improvements. It is meant for the iPhone 5s and above models, iPad Air and above, iPad mini 2 and above, as well as the iPod touch 6th generation.

iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 users who were facing audio and haptic feedback should see the problem resolved after downloading and installing the iOS 11.0.3 software update. The company says it has also addressed an issue with iPhone 6s where some displays were unresponsive because they were not serviced with genuine parts.

The company however warns that non-genuine replacement displays many have compromised visual quality and may not be fully functional. In comparison, Apple-certified screen repairs are performed by trusted experts who use genuine parts.

If you’re running iOS 11, iOS 11.0.1, or iOS 11.0.2, then your device is eligible for the free update to iOS 11.0.3. You can access the update from Settings -> General -> Software Update. You should make sure you are on a Wi-Fi connection, and back up your device before proceeding.

Even as Apple attempts to fix some of the issues people are having since installing iOS 11, there are still some known issues that the company is yet to address. Many users have complained about shorter battery life and an issue where they get a ton of text notification when they reboot the device. Apple has not acknowledged either of the issues yet.

If you have not upgraded to iOS 11 yet, you might find the new customisable Control Centre, and the redesigned lock screen experience interesting enough. The company has also redesigned the App Store and Siri now has a more natural voice. Additionally, iOS 11 brings support for HEVC and HEIF codecs that use improved algorithms to compress the file size of videos and images.

Hotstar’s ‘hours before torrents’ Game of Thrones promise fails
Game of Thrones Season 7 claimed its first victim and it wasn’t a character on the show. Indian streaming service Hotstar suffered technical issues ensuring that the series’ rabid fans were unable to watch episode 1 of season 7 of Game of Thrones. Ahead of season 7 of Game of Thrones, Hotstar campaigned pretty aggressively against torrents, promising to get you the episode ahead of the torrents. Ironically, owing to these technical problems, many die-hard fans were forced to fall back on torrents for their GoT fix anyway. In a statement to Gadgets 360, Hotstar confirmed the service faced some problems earlier in the day, but said that it was “fully up now”.

Moto G5S Plus and Xiaomi Mi 5X specifications leaked
The Moto G5S Plus is yet to be announced by Lenovo but that hasn’t stopped yet another leak. It could sport a dual camera setup with a flash beneath it along with a circular metal frame. This is in sharp contrast to the Moto G5 Plus that had a single camera on the back. Other details of the Moto G5S Plus, such as a front flash on top of the display and a home button on the front, are similar to the Moto G5 Plus. A previous leak suggests we could see the Moto G5 Plus sport a Snapdragon 625 SoC with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Also leaked is the Xiaomi Mi 5X. Promotional material for the smartphone made its way to the Internet prior to an official announcement. The Xiaomi Mi 5X is expected to cost CNY 1,999 (around Rs. 19,000) and may arrive in Black and Gold colour options.

Google Maps now tells you the best time of the day to travel to your destination
Google Maps will now tell you the best time of the day to travel to your destination. Unlike most feature roll-outs for the service, which take awhile to show up across devices, it appears to be already available for Android users. This addition is visible when you search for a destination and ask Google Maps for directions, presenting you with a graph that shows off the duration of your trip as per the time of the day. Don’t expect exact information on the time saved by starting your journey at a particular time though, just a rough estimate. Nonetheless, its better than no data at all.

TRAI to discuss ‘minimum floor price’ with telcos, Aircel’s new 333 pack
The freebies being offered by Reliance Jio and other telco could come to an end. On July 21, TRAI will meet all telecom providers to seek views on a ‘minimum floor price’ for voice and data rates. This comes months after Reliance Jio stormed the telecom market with aggressive data pricing, and saying that voice calls will always be free on its network. With incumbent operators blaming Jio for their financial woes and the industry debt standing at Rs. 4.6 lakh crores, it will be of interest to see how this plays out.

Amidst this, Aircel has announced a new Rs. 333 pack called RC 333 data plan. Described by the company as its ‘best ever’, the Aircel 333 pack provides users with 30GB of 3G data for 30 days with no daily usage limits at Rs. 333. Although announced for the Karnataka region, Aircel customers with 2G, 3G, and 4G handsets can avail of it but will be limited to 3G speeds.

Truecaller for Android Gets Spam Folder, New Themes, and More With Latest Update

Truecaller for Android Gets Spam Folder, New Themes, and More With Latest Update

Truecaller is now rolling out version 8.21 of its Android app, and the update brings along a host of changes to the application. If you often get annoyed with spam messages, the new update will bring you a relief as it brings a Spam Folder that keeps all the junk SMSes away – it will have to be assigned as your default SMS app however. Apart from this folder, the Truecaller for Android update adds new themes and an option to save MMS as well to the app.

The Truecaller for Android update is already available for download through Google Play and as mentioned earlier, it will bring a separate tab to the app that keeps the spam messages apart from the regular messages in Truecaller app. Moving on to the themes bit, the version 8.21 brings along new themes including Pitch Black. There is a new option that marks all the messages as read in the Block tab.

The latest Truecaller update for Android adds an option to save MMS and an option to block from incoming Flash messages.

Interestingly, the Pro version of the app that removes ads now costs Rs. 30 instead of Rs. 60. Additionally, the company is offering an yearly subscription to the Pro version at Rs. 270. Notably, the app now provides auto-renewal option that will save you from the trouble of having to renew it manually.

As Truecaller is an app that almost everybody has to use, this option for removing ads with annual subscription at an affordable price might lure more users to take up the Pro version of the app.
