Asus ZenFone 4 Series India Launch Set for September 14

Asus ZenFone 4 Series India Launch Set for September 14

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Asus has sent out media invites for its next ZenFone launch
  • The event is set to be held on September 14
  • Asus may launch its selfie-focused smartphones in India

Last month, Asus launched several new ZenFone 4 models, including two selfie-focused smartphones – the Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie and Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro smartphones. Now, the company has sent out media invites for an event on September 14 for the launch ‘of its latest smartphone series’. Furthermore, on its social pages, Asus has confirmed that the next ZenFone is coming next week, confirming the India launch for the ZenFone 4 series.

While there’s no clarity on which smartphones from the ZenFone 4 series will launch in India, Asus has so far, made many ZenFone 4 variants official – the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4 Selfie, and ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. The selfie-focused smartphones were launched first, followed by the ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 4 Pro soon after. Back in July, the Asus ZenFone 4 Max was also launched.

Asus has also simultaneously launched a #DitchTheSelfieStick campaign in India as well, hinting that probably the two selfie-focused variants may see the light of the day first. In any case, clarity on that will only be achieved at the event on September 14.

In Europe, the Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro has been priced by the company at EUR 399.99 (roughly Rs. 30,050), while the ZenFone 4 Selfie is priced at EUR 299.99 (roughly Rs. 22,550). These prices are not indicative of how much they will cost in the Indian market, as taxes and government regulation play an additional and definitive deciding role in the final pricing.

As the names suggest, both smartphones are focused on selfies and come with dual cameras at front. The Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro bears a front-facing dual camera setup with a 24-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor. The ZenFone 4 Selfie on the other hand comes with a 20-megapixel sensor and another 8-megapixel sensor at the front of the handset. At rear end, both new Asus smartphones feature 16-megapixel primary cameras.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Units to Be Remotely Deactivated Starting September 30?

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Units to Be Remotely Deactivated Starting September 30?

HIGHLIGHTS

  • A Redditor claims that all old handsets will be remotely deactivated
  • This deactivation process will begin after September 30
  • This move is to ensure that no defected units remain in the market

Samsung is now expediting the replacement programme for the Galaxy Note 7, urging all users to participate in the exchange program immediately. A Redditor has also shed light on Samsung’s plans to remotely deactivate all old Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices as a safety measure after September 30.

The Redditor claims that the Samsung customer care has informed him that all the old handsets will be deactivated remotely to ensure that no defected pieces remain active in the market. This will also push all current users who haven’t initiated the exchange process, to do so immediately. Samsung has urged all Galaxy Note 7 holders to contact their local customer service centres as soon as possible. He claims that the company will begin shipping packages to everySamsung Galaxy Note 7 buyer across the globe. The package will contain the new handset, the new Galaxy Gear VR, and a bag for putting the old device and handing it back. This replacement process is all done for free, and Samsung is even bundling $25 gift cards for the inconvenience.

Expediting the process was a needed move, as many cases of explosions were being reported across the globe. A jeep was set on fire in the US after a man left his Galaxy Note 7 on charge in the car, and a house garage also lit up after the handset was left on charge unattended. An Australian man was left with a $1400 hotel damages bill, after his unit exploded in the hotel room charring the bed sheet and the carpet.

Samsung has suspended worldwide sales of the Galaxy Note 7. The company has announced that it is working with all regulatory bodies to ensure that all defective handsets are taken off the market. Meanwhile, airline authorities in many countries, including India, have banned the use of the handset on flights.

Samsung looked to unveil the Galaxy Note 7 earlier than tradition to fend off competition from the iPhone 7. However, this defect in its home-grown SDI batteries caused its strategy to backfire badly, earning the company a bad reputation in the process. Samsung was seeing good sale numbers after a couple of years, and it hoped that the release of the Galaxy Note 7 would help push its growth further. However, the exploding Galaxy Note 7 controversy couldn’t have come at a worst time for Samsung, and it could reportedly cost the company as much as $1 billion.

LG V20 Spotted in the Wild Ahead of September 6 Launch

LG V20 Spotted in the Wild Ahead of September 6 Launch

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The live image shows the front of the LG V20
  • The smartphone will not sport the modular chin
  • LG is unveiling the smartphone on September 6

The LG V20 is all set to be unveiled on September 6, and Google has confirmed that the smartphone will be the first new smartphone to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Running up to the launch event, we’ve seen several render leaks, and now a live image of the LG V20 has surfaced online.

The LG V20 was snapped in the wild by Twitter [email protected], and shows the front of the smartphone only. Even though the image is grainy, the LG branding at the bottom cannot be missed. There seems to be very thin bezel around the edges, and the front camera is where it was seen in past renders – on the top left of the smartphone.

This image was a response tweet to Evan Blass’s LG V20 render leak yesterday. Techman72 replied to Blass’s leak tweet, “Here’s a real pic of the V20, not some render.” Blass’s render image also showed the smartphone front. The render image shows the buttons forged into the display, and the second screen is seen on top. Renders of the LG V20 have been leaked by OnLeaks in the past as well, and they show the smartphone from all angles. There’s a dual camera setup expected at the back, with the fingerprint sensor sitting right below it. The USB Type-C port, the 3.5mm audio jack, and the speaker grill are all seen situated at the bottom of the device.

While there were earlier rumours of LG introducing the LG G5-like modular design on the LG V20, the latest renders show no release button hinting at a regular unibodied smartphone. The company has been boasting of the smartphone’s audio and sound capabilities, claiming that it will be the first in the world to sport a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC (digital to analogue converter) for enhanced audio playback.

LG is placing its bet on the V20 to revive its smartphone business, after the dismal performance of the LG G5. The flagship smartphone had weaker-than-expected sales following production difficulties, and LG reported a total operating loss of roughly $132 million in the second quarter of 2016.
