The 2018 Maruti Suzuki will debut in India on February 7, 2018

Maruti Suzuki is all set to debut the third generation of the Swift in India and we’ll first see the car in the flesh at the 2018 Auto Expo. The company has officially begun bookings for the car and the dealers all across the country have started accepting it at a booking amount of ₹ 11,000. The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift will be launched at the expo and deliveries will begin post that pan India. We spoke to a few dealers though who confirmed saying that it s likely that the car will carry a waiting period of 3 to 4 months from the start.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has dominated the hatchback segment and the new generation promises nothing different. The first two generations have been dominant in the compact hatchback segment ever since 2005 and it has always been on the list of top ten cars sold every month since then. Maruti Suzuki says that it has sold more than 5.8 million Swifts globally. The new generation, then, has big shoes to fill in and Maruti Suzuki isn’t holding out on making this one a cracker of a car.

The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a brand new design, and it’s an all new design language as well, which enhances the looks of the car. The new Swift is based on the 5th generation of the HEARTECT platform and it has grown in terms of dimensions. The 2018 Swift is wider (up by 40mm) at 1735 mm, has a longer wheelbase which has gone up by 20 mm at 2450 mm and is shorter than its predecessor by 10 mm (yes you read that right). Having said all of that, Maruti Suzuki says that the cabin of the new Swift boasts of better leg, knee and head room at the rear.

The new Swift also gets a major design and styling overhaul with new bold single-frame grille flanked by the bug-like headlamps with projector units and LED daytime running lamps and LED taillights. The car also gets new sportier alloys, a floating-style roof design with blackened B-pillar, and new front and rear bumper. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift will also get an extensively updated cabin similar to the Dzire with a flat-bottom steering wheel. There’s also a new infotainment system which comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Commenting on the all-new Swift, RS Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) at Maruti Suzuki India said, “We will take the excitement to a new height with the all-new Swift. The all-new Swift with its distinctive design, advanced technology, uplifting performance and enduring driver experience will bring disruption in the premium hatchback segment. In its newest avatar, the Swift undergoes a bold transformation to meet the aspiration of young and ever changing customer. We are delighted to open bookings for the all-new Swift and look forward to a grand launch at the Auto Expo 2018.”

Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Swift will continue using the same 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines. The 2018 Swift will be now available with a manual as well as an Auto Gear Shift (AGS). There will be a primary of 4 variants on offer in both petrol and diesel – LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. The AGS will be only available in the VXi and ZXi variants in both fuel types. The company is also bringing in a host of new colours and there will be a total of six on offer. The Prime Lucent Orange is the new colour on offer on the Swift.

There’s good amount of boot space too with 268 litres of space which is an improvement of 58 litres over its predecessor.

After grabbing eyeballs at its last outing in Barcelona, HMD Global is now all set to make another splash this year at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, a senior executive teased. The company launched the nostalgic Nokia 3310 and showcased the first troopers from its army of Android smartphones at MWC 2017. And for the forthcoming convention, it is already rumoured to have a bunch of developments, including the Nokia 9 flagship as well as the Android Oreo (Go edition) based Nokia 1.

HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas on Thursday used his Twitter account to tease the launches planned for the MWC 2018. “Sorry for radio silence. Been super busy planning #MWC2018. Please expect it to be awesome [sic],” Sarvikas tweeted. The executive didn’t define the developments that will be showcased at the forthcoming MWC. However, some recent reports have enough material to help us understand what all will be available from the ever-green Nokia portfolio.

The Nokia family in 2018 is expected to get a list of new members, including the Nokia 1, Nokia 4, Nokia 7, Nokia 8 (2018), and Nokia 9. Alongside these new Nokia smartphone models, the Finnish company is rumoured to be developing a Nokia 3310 4G variant that recently emerged on TENAA certification sitewith Android-based YunOS. The 2018 lineup notably received the Nokia 6 (2018) as the first member.

Amongst all the new Nokia models, the Nokia 9 is expected to be the show-stopper. The smartphone is already rumoured to have top-notch specifications and features such as a dual selfie camera setup and a thin-bezel display. If we believe the ongoing rumours, the Nokia 9 will come in multiple variants and sport a 5.5-inch OLED display as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. It is also reported to have 12-megapixel and 13-megapixel camera sensors on the back and a 3250mAh battery with fast charging support. Besides, the smartphone is likely to come with up to 128GB onboard storage and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

In addition to the Nokia 9, we can safely speculate the Nokia 1 as the new sales-driver for HMD Global. The smartphone, which is rumoured to be one of the first Android Go smartphones, will purportedly feature an HD IPS display, 1GB RAM, and 8GB onboard storage. Despite usual, entry-level specifications, the Android Go presence on the Nokia 1 would make it a distinct option in the market. It is like to have lightweight apps such as Google Maps Go, Files Go, and Google Go among others. Further, the smartphone is rumoured to go on sale in Russia at RUB 5,990 (approximately Rs. 6,750).

We need to wait for some more time to understand what all would be from the side of HMD Global. In the meantime, the company has already registered itself as an MWC exhibitor to hint some big announcements.

Mark Walhberg Was Paid 1,500 Times More Than Michelle Williams To Reshoot Film

Hollywood is voicing its outrage over reports that Mark Wahlberg was paid 1,500 times more than Michelle Williams to reshoot scenes for kidnap drama “All the Money in the World.”

Ridley Scott partially re-shot his latest movie after Kevin Spacey was fired due to sexual misconduct allegations, with both Wahlberg and Williams called back to act opposite Spacey’s replacement, Christopher Plummer.

But Williams, according to USA Today, earned a daily allowance of $80 for her work — amounting to under $1,000 in total and less than 0.07 percent of the $1.5 million that Wahlberg earned.

“Please go see Michelle’s performance in ‘All the Money in the World.’ She’s a brilliant Oscar-nominated Golden Globe-winning actress,” raged an indignant Jessica Chastain on Twitter.

“She has been in the industry for 20 years. She deserves more than one percent of her male co-star’s salary.”

Actress and activist Amber Tamblyn described the reported pay gap as “totally unacceptable” while veteran producer Judd Apatow said it was “so messed up that it is almost hard to believe.”

Golden Globe-winning actress Mia Farrow said the disparity was “outrageously unfair,” adding that she was “never, ever paid even a quarter of what the male lead received.”

Williams previously told USA Today she appreciated efforts to reshoot the film, which recounts the kidnapping of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty’s grandson, adding that “they could have my salary.”

Scott said the actors, including Williams and Wahlberg, turned up “for nothing” for the 10-day November re-shoot but USA Today reported that Wahlberg’s agency later renegotiated his “hefty fee.”

At Sunday’s Golden Globes — where “All the Money in the World” came home empty-handed despite three nominations — male and female actors wore black to highlight sexual misconduct and also to promote gender parity.

The protest was organized in part by the newly-launched Time’s Up campaign led by female stars including Williams to address gender discrimination in Hollywood and other industries.

As her date, Williams brought civil rights activist Tarana Burke, the creator in 2006 of the “Me Too” movement to raise awareness of the ubiquity of sexual abuse. The phrase was co-opted by actress Alyssa Milano last year for the #MeToo social media campaign against sexual misconduct in Hollywood.

Representatives for Wahlberg and Williams did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

What Not To Say During A Salary Negotiation

If you want things to go your way, don’t say any of this

Get the best offer possible during your salary negotiation

Preparation pays off, literally, when it comes to salary negotiations. Research about the market and company standards can only take you so far – you need to be able to pitch yourself too. There are some phrases people tend to use in these discussions that don’t really end up working in their favour – despite what they (or you) believe. Here are a few of them. Remember not to say any of this during your next salary negotiation.

1. ‘I’m getting married/moving house/etc’

Let us try to say this as politely as possible – no one cares. Your personal matters are just that – personal. And you can not expect them to influence any professional decisions made at that meeting. The best thing to do is avoid talking about your personal dilemmas, no matter how much they’re affecting you, and focus on the work you’re doing and it’s worth.

2. ‘I’m sorry but…’

Don’t apologise. We all tend to use the word quite liberally, especially when talking to superiors. But there is nothing to apologise for here – you’re talking about your remuneration, which is your right. Don’t feel embarrassed or uncomfortable about it. You’ve worked hard for it.

3. ‘I need/want… ‘

But do you really ‘need’ it? And if you want it, so what? We’re sure every person wants a higher salary. But what’s more important is – do they deserve it? Sometimes the answer to that is no. During your salary negotiations, instead of telling them what you want, tell them what you deserve – and why.

4. ‘I have another offer that is much higher’

Take it then? You don’t want your prospective employer to think you’re in it just for the money. If the other company is offering you more money, and that’s all that matters, you would have taken it anyway. So don’t play that card and try to keep the focus of the conversation on the offer you’re discussing.

5. ‘I haven’t had a raise in so long’

You need to put your point across, without sounding like you’re whining and saying this doesn’t help your case. Bringing their attention to the fact that you have not gotten a raise only makes them think that there has been no reason for you to get a raise.

6. ‘But others are getting paid more to do less work’

Again, trying to compare yourself to others won’t work, nor it is your place to do so. Talk about how much time and effort you have been putting in, irrespective of others – but as soon as you make it seem like a competition, you’re going to lose favour in the discussion. Also, it makes you sound like a gossip-monger.

7. ‘I want more…’

‘More’ is too vague for you to use in this discussion. ‘More’ can be 2% more than the original offer was. There is no room for ‘more’ in this negotiation. Talk about how much more you would like the offer to be and they might take you seriously.
