These Unexpected Stores Sell Really Awesome Running Gear

Stores with running gear

When it comes to your shoes, there’s no place like your specialty running store, where experienced runners are on hand to size you up, watch you stand, walk, and run, and provide plenty of personalized options you can test drive on the spot to narrow down your best match. When you need to restock your supply of socks, tops, and shorts, however, great gear can be found in the most unexpected places.

We scoured more than a dozen popular big box stores and online merchants to bring you the best running finds from more traditional clothing retailers. Because you can’t touch, feel, or try stuff online, we made sure to hunt for brands we know, trust, and have experience actually running in.

In the end, we found some high quality, cool gear any runner would love—and for cheap. Here are our favorite running gear finds.

Target: C9 Champion Women’s Plus-Size Premium Run 2-in-1 Shorts

Speciality stores don’t always cater to larger sizes on the running spectrum, so we appreciate that Target features premium shorts for plus-size women. The wide, low waistband holds the shorts up without uncomfortably digging in, while a slightly longer inseam helps prevent leg chafing. Stash your cash and key in the back zippered pocket and go.

Apple Says Developers Earned Over $70 Billion Since App Store’s Launch

Apple Says Developers Earned Over $70 Billion Since App Store's Launch

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Apple made the announcement on Thursday
  • Photo and Video category is fastest growing category on App Store
  • Apple’s WWDC 2017 kicks off next week

Apple on Thursday, few days ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) kickoff, announced that its global developer community has earned over $70 billion through the App Store since its launch in 2008. The Cupertino-based giant further added that last 12 months have seen massive growth, and the App Store has seen over 70 percent growth in downloads.

Talking about its App Store, Apple said that iOS developers around the world have been catering to 155 countries, and few segments have lately seen massive growth. Apple says that the Photo and Video category is among the “fastest-growing” as it registered nearly 90 percent growth. Other segments like Lifestyle apps, Health and Fitness have seen over 70 percent growth in the past year. Gaming and Entertainment are top-grossing categories, adds Apple in a statement.

Apple also adds that the subscription model introduction has bumped the paid subscriptions as it saw 58 percent more paid subscriptions compared to over a year ago. The company notes that subscription model has been doing well in a wide variety of services including Netflix and Hulu. While newcomers like Tastemade, the mobile-first cooking network, and photo editing apps like Over and Enlight, have also done well.

Announcing the news, Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing said, “People everywhere love apps and our customers are downloading them in record numbers. Seventy billion dollars earned by developers is simply mind-blowing. We are amazed at all of the great new apps our developers create and can’t wait to see them again next week at our Worldwide Developers Conference.”

Apple’s annual developer conference WWDC is no doubt one of the biggest events for the technology lovers and it will take place from June 5 to June 9. The 28th annual Worldwide Developers Conference will be returning to McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, which will host the event after 15 years. For those unaware, San Jose was the original venue of WWDC, and it hosted Apple’s annual event from 1988 to 2002.

Russia Asks Apple, Google to Remove LinkedIn From App Stores

Russia Asks Apple, Google to Remove LinkedIn From App Stores
Accusing LinkedIn of flouting local laws that require Internet firms to store data on citizens within the nations borders, the Russian authorities have asked Apple and Google to remove the professional networking site app from their online stores.

Recently, a Russian court blocked the Microsoft-owned LinkedIn service for breaching the country’s data protection rules.

According to The New York Times, Apple has confirmed that it was asked to remove its LinkedIn app in Russia about a month ago.

“However, Google has not confirmed if it had removed LinkedIn in Russia but said that it adhered to Russian local laws,” the report added.

Meanwhile, LinkedIn responded that the company was “disappointed” with the decision by Russian regulators to block the service.
“It denies access to our members in Russia and the companies that use LinkedIn to grow their businesses,” Nicole Leverich, a spokeswoman for LinkedIn, was quoted as saying.

LinkedIn has several million users in Russia.

Earlier this week, Apple removed the New York Times from its app store following a request from Chinese authorities claiming the app was in violation of regulations.

China is known for banning digital sites like Facebook and Google that it believes harm its national security or promote misinformation. The Wall Street Journal’s Chinese-language site has been blocked since 2014.

H&M Ignores Underserved Market by Pulling Plus Size Clothing from Stores (Watch)

Popular retail chain H&M has reportedly removed all plus size clothing from its stores in New York City. A representative for the company explained that the stores simply don’t have enough room for those clothing options anymore since they’ve added new product lines like home goods and beauty supplies.

But this move could very well turn out to be a negative one for the retailer, even with the new product lines. Fashion industry experts including Tim Gunn and Christian Siriano think that the fashion industry is failing its female consumers by not offering enough fashionable options for plus size women.

And H&M already launched an ad campaign with plus size model Ashley Graham earlier this year. But the company had to include a fine print disclaimer that said customers can only buy those plus size clothing options online.

Will this example of abandoning underserved markets be a lesson in missed opportunity?

Plus size clothing consumers make up a fairly high percentage of the market. And if you believe those industry experts, it’s a segment that’s fairly underserved at the moment. So by pulling those clothing options from stores, H&M could be missing out on an opportunity. In addition, if those customers can only shop for their clothing options online, they’re less likely to see all those new home goods and beauty products that are carried in stores.
