Asus ZenFone 4 Series India Launch Set for September 14

Asus ZenFone 4 Series India Launch Set for September 14

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Asus has sent out media invites for its next ZenFone launch
  • The event is set to be held on September 14
  • Asus may launch its selfie-focused smartphones in India

Last month, Asus launched several new ZenFone 4 models, including two selfie-focused smartphones – the Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie and Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro smartphones. Now, the company has sent out media invites for an event on September 14 for the launch ‘of its latest smartphone series’. Furthermore, on its social pages, Asus has confirmed that the next ZenFone is coming next week, confirming the India launch for the ZenFone 4 series.

While there’s no clarity on which smartphones from the ZenFone 4 series will launch in India, Asus has so far, made many ZenFone 4 variants official – the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4 Selfie, and ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. The selfie-focused smartphones were launched first, followed by the ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 4 Pro soon after. Back in July, the Asus ZenFone 4 Max was also launched.

Asus has also simultaneously launched a #DitchTheSelfieStick campaign in India as well, hinting that probably the two selfie-focused variants may see the light of the day first. In any case, clarity on that will only be achieved at the event on September 14.

In Europe, the Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro has been priced by the company at EUR 399.99 (roughly Rs. 30,050), while the ZenFone 4 Selfie is priced at EUR 299.99 (roughly Rs. 22,550). These prices are not indicative of how much they will cost in the Indian market, as taxes and government regulation play an additional and definitive deciding role in the final pricing.

As the names suggest, both smartphones are focused on selfies and come with dual cameras at front. The Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro bears a front-facing dual camera setup with a 24-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor. The ZenFone 4 Selfie on the other hand comes with a 20-megapixel sensor and another 8-megapixel sensor at the front of the handset. At rear end, both new Asus smartphones feature 16-megapixel primary cameras.

The live stream can be seen on several platforms, including the company’s YouTubeFacebook, and Twitterpages, as well as on Flipkart and Amazon India. We’ll embed the video below as soon as we get the link.

There’s not much that’s known about the Vivo V7+ for now. We know it’s a selfie-focused smartphone. We also know that the display bezels on the sides are small. With the launch live streaming on both Flipkart and Amazon, we can also gather that the smartphone probably won’t be exclusive to either. Stay tuned to details from the launch event.

Vivo India recently also launched the selfie-focused Vivo V5s smartphone in the country, and priced it at Rs. 18,990. The big highlight of the Vivo V5s is the front camera – it bears a 20-megapixel front camera with a ‘Moonlight Glow’ front light and an f/2.0 aperture, apart from the Face Beauty 6.0 app. On the rear, the smartphone features a 13-megapixel camera with PDAF and dual-LED flash.

The dual-SIM (Micro+Nano) Vivo V5s runs Funtouch OS 3.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It features a fingerprint sensor on its home button. It bears a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display with 2.5D Curved Glass, Gorilla Glass protection, and a pixel density of 267ppi. On the storage front, the Vivo V5s offers 64GB of inbuilt storage that’s expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM format. The Vivo V5s runs on 3000mAh non-removable battery, weighs 154 grams, and measures 153.8×75.5×7.55mm.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Set for August 23 Unpacked Event

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Set for August 23 Unpacked Event

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Galaxy Note 8 is expected to pack 6GB of RAM
  • Samsung has used tagline “Do bigger things” on invite
  • The smartphone is expected to feature dual cameras at back

Samsung is all set to launch the next smartphone in its Galaxy Note series of phablets, the Galaxy Note 8. The company has started sending invites for Unpacked launch event on August 23. While an earlier report had pointed to the same date for launch, we now have the official confirmation from the South Korean company. While the company doesn’t say much on its launch teaser, it has used the tagline “Do bigger things” to indicate a larger display and more features over current flagships.

In the invite image, shared by Samsung Mobile through a tweet on Thursday, the company has displayed the outline of a smartphone with an Infinity Display, just like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. Notably, the signature S Pen can also be seen right alongside the outline in the invite image, all but confirming the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Samsung said, “Find out what it means to do bigger things on 08.23.2017,” in its tweet.

As we mentioned, “bigger things” is likely an indication of more features over current flagships as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been tipped to feature only a slightly bigger 6.3-inch display compared with 6.2-inch on Galaxy S8+.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 SoC (depending on the market). The smartphone has been tipped to pack 6GB of RAM. The dual camera setup on the Galaxy Note 8 is expected to come with two 12-megapixel sensors and independent OIS (optical image stabilisation) for each lens. The camera setup on the smartphone have been said to be in a horizontal orientation and the sensors are believed to be separated from the fingerprint sensor by the LED flash and heart rate monitor in the middle. Rumours of an in-screen fingerprint sensor also continue to spread – though of course, it depends on if the company is able to successfully implement it in time for the launch.

As per leaks, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been tipped to house a 3300mAh battery. There have been several leaks about the design of the smartphone and some of the recently leaked cases have even shown similarity. As Samsung had heating and explosion issues with Galaxy Note 7, which recently even made a comeback as Galaxy Note Fan edition in Korea, the company would definitely want to revive the series with a bang (no pun intended).

Economy set to ‘shift down a gear’ amid political uncertainty

Brexit talks are under way

Economic growth is set to be “subdued” over the next few years amid ongoing political uncertainty and Brexit talks, a leading business group is warning.

The CBI said a slower pace of growth is expected to persist, while business investment will fall back next year.

Household spending growth is predicted to slow this year and in 2018, while wage rises will remain below inflation this year and broadly in line next year, said the CBI.

The group forecast 1.6% economic growth for 2017 and 1.4% next year.

Carolyn Fairbairn, the CBI’s director general, said: “Growth should be steady, if restrained, over the next couple of years as the pace of the economy shifts down a gear.

“While the country’s exporters should emerge as a real catalyst of growth, rising inflation and stubbornly low wage growth mean that people are already starting to feel the pinch.

“Tighter purse strings mean slower household spending growth and uncertainty is likely to weigh on the minds of those making major investment decisions.

“So, after a frantic period in Westminster, this is the time for a renewed focus on the economic fundamentals of this country.

“Above all, the new Government has the opportunity to signal loudly and clearly that Britain is a great place to do business, relentlessly focusing on investing in infrastructure, innovation and skills nationwide, while delivering a sensible and competitive tax and regulatory environment.”

Rain Newton-Smith, the CBI’s chief economist, added that growth will be slower in the years ahead as living standards are hit by rising inflation.
