Five Hacks To Produce High Quality, Low-Cost Facebook Creative Today

In recent years, one of the most consistent concerns of both existing and prospective clients has been, “how can we generate more high-quality creative quickly and affordably?”

With Facebook favoring video in the newsfeed and Instagram’s rollout of Stories, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and assume regularly producing high-quality creative requires a dedicated design and videography team.

That’s simply not true. From my experience working with many emerging e-commerce leaders, you can achieve your goals — whether they’re increasing engagement, greater click-through rates, or lower cost per acquisition– by following the five strategies below. I’ve seen these strategies used over and over to achieve great results without breaking the bank.

1. Create High-Quality (Not Overproduced) Content

One of the biggest misconceptions of Facebook advertising is that every piece of creative needs to look like it was made by a professional photographer or Hollywood filmmaker. More often than not, creative that looks user-generated will outperform its more polished counterparts. When an ad is overproduced, it can create “banner blindness.” Fast-scrolling thumbs won’t slow down to look at something if it looks too much like an ad. On Facebook and Instagram, ads that look like a photo or video from a friend are more likely to catch a prospect’s attention.

2. Use The Boomerang App

Boomerang from Instagram allows you to create captivating mini videos that play forward-then-backward, creating a neat, GIF-like video loop. These videos are fun, eye-catching and, most importantly, only take a second to produce. Boomerang videos do not include audio, which makes them great for mobile.

One of our clients, Brooklinen, has done a great job using Boomerang in its Facebook Ads. The bedding company created boomerangs of people jumping into bed, putting on a luxe duvet cover, etc. These eye-catching ads increased click-through rates, which in turn created lower cost-per-click and overall lower cost-per-acquisition of new customers. Customers have also responded positively, leaving comments on the ads describing the fun and quirky format.

3. Repurpose Online Reviews

Many online retailers would be surprised to see how many customers have created “unboxing” videos and uploaded them to YouTube. Unboxing is the unpacking of new products, especially consumer products, where the process is captured on video and uploaded to the internet. According to Think With Google, “unboxing fuels anticipation and provides useful product information.”

Many people think that unboxing videos are just for tech gadgets – not true. This same Google publication reports that “Food and drink, fashion and style and mobile phone unboxing videos have seen 42%, 90%, and 200% growth in popularity, respectively.”

Combining user-generated content with useful, relevant product information is a proven winner. Be sure to always reach out to the creator first for permission to use their content.

4. Crowdsource Creative

User-generated content, or user-created content, is any form of content created by customers or end users. UGC most often appears as supplementary to online platforms such as social media websites and may include such content types as blog posts, photos, videos or reviews. Many emerging brands are using UGC in their advertising campaigns as it speaks in the voice of the customer and is highly relatable.

According to the Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Internet Trends 2017 Report, “Effective UGC can create 6.9x higher engagement than brand generated content on Facebook.”

Many successful brands have leveraged contests to generate more UGC, including one of our clients, MVMT Watches. The MVMT team holds a monthly contest where customers upload photos of their purchase to Instagram using a specific hashtag that enters them into the contest. This contest has generated thousands of pieces of high-quality content that are used in future advertising campaigns. It works because MVMT customers are highly engaged with the visual brand and want to help build the brand, thus creating more customer loyalty and further building brand identity.

Just remember to have clear rules and rights to ownership of content produced.

5. Use Snapchat Lenses

If your goal is to reach millennials, pay extra attention to this. According to a TechRadar writer, “Snapchat lenses are augmented reality filters – you’ll typically find these on the selfie camera, but some are available on the rear-facing camera – within the SnapChat app … use these to make your face look like a dog or give yourself a strange hairstyle.” These are fun, social and highly recognizable, which gives your brand familiarity.

These short videos can easily be repurposed and used for Facebook advertising. Another plus: They’re vertical (mobile-first format), which generates a full-screen experience on mobile.

These five tips alone will not create winning advertising campaigns, but they certainly can help take the headache out of creating content. With strong technical knowledge of Facebook advertising and consistent testing, you should be able to easily identify and source the creative that works best for your online brand.

UK cities nowhere in sight in world’s quality of living rankings

Vienna, Austria’s grand capital on the Danube river, has topped consulting firm Mercer’s list of cities offering the highest quality of life for the eighth year in a row, while Baghdad is again considered the worst place to live.

Meanwhile London, together with other global centres Paris, Tokyo and New York City did not even make the top 30, lagging behind most big German, Scandinavian, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian cities. The England and UK capital ranked 40th, two spots behind its French counterpart.

The survey of 231 cities helps companies and organisations determine compensation and hardship allowances for international staff. It uses dozens of criteria such as political stability, health care, education, crime, recreation and transport.

Singapore was the highest ranked Asian city, at 25 while 29th-placed San Francisco was the United States’ highest entry. Top of the list in Africa was South Africa’s Durban at 87.

Vienna’s 1.8 million inhabitants benefit from the city’s cafe culture and museums, theatres and operas. Rents and public transport costs in the city, whose architecture is marked by its past as the centre of the Habsburg empire, are cheap compared with other western capitals.

Switzerland’s Zurich, New Zealand’s Auckland, Germany’s Munich and Canada’s Vancouver followed Vienna in the top five of most pleasant cities to live in.

Baghdad was again ranked lowest in the world. Waves of sectarian violence have swept through the Iraqi capital since the US-led invasion in 2003.

Six years into Syria’s bloody war, Damascus was ranked seventh from bottom, with Bangui in the Central African Republic, Yemeni capital Sanaa, Haiti’s Port-au-Prince, Sudan’s Khartoum and Chad’s N’Djamena filling out the end of the list.

LG has teased yet another feature of the G6 flagship smartphone ahead of its launch later this month. The South Korean company has confirmed that the LG G6 smartphone will sport a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC (digital to analogue converter) for enhanced audio playback. To recall, LG V20 was the company’s first smartphone to come with Quad DAC feature, and the G6 will sport an improved version.

The LG G6 with Quad DAC means it will come with support for FLAC, DID, DIFF, and ALAC file formats, and will deliver clear sound by reducing distortion and ambient noise by up to 50 percent. Much like the V20, the LG G6 will also come with ESS Technology, which has been developer by a company that specialises in audio products. To recall, a single 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC was also included on the LG V10.

LG claims that the improved Quad DAC on the G6 increases circuit integration and lower the negative distortion to 0.0002 percent as well as minimises the loss of acoustic information. LG further adds that the new Quad DAC in the LG G6 will enable users to effectively control the left and right earphones separately. It will also let users adjust the balance of sound.
The Sourth Korean consumer electronics giant is definitely working to generate interest in the upcoming G6 flagship smartphone, with the company already revealing that the smartphone would launch at a pre-MWC event later this month in Barcelona.

We already know that LG G6 flagship will be getting a headstart compared to the Galaxy S8 availability in the market thanks to the Snapdragon 821 SoC. Based on a flurry of leaks, the LG G6 is widely expected to sport metal design which will be a departure from the company’s current plastic body in the LG G5. LG is also rumoured to run additional safety tests on the G6 ahead of its actual launch. Some of the highlights of the handset are said to be the first non-Pixel smartphone to come preloaded with Google Assistant out-of-the-box; dual-rear camera setup, and waterproofing capability with IP68 certification.

LG’s G6 flagship smartphone will be unveiled at the company’s February 26 event which will begin at 4.30pm IST (12.00pm CET).

As the call drop issue remains yet to be fully addressed, the telecom regulator on Friday issued a consultation paper seeking opinion of stakeholders on how quality of services could be improved by the telecom service providers.

It also talked about introducing a graded financial disincentives based on performance.

“How should the call drop rate calculated – either at the Licensed service area level calculated during TCBH (Time Consistent Busy Hour), or calculated during the Cell Bouncing Busy Hour at BTS (Base Transceiver Station) level should be the benchmark,” the consultation paper issued by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) asked.

Currently the benchmark for call drop rate is less than 2 percent.

“Considering the performance of service providers and also considering the public outcry in recent times it is felt that there is enough ground for further tightening of the benchmark for this parameter,” the paper said.

The consultation paper titled “Review of network related Quality of Service standards for Cellular Mobile Telephone Service” has sought stakeholders comments by August 26, 2016 and counter comments by September 2, 2016.

“How should the benchmark for the network parameters be revised? Should it be licensed service area wise or district wise or BTS wise or a combination? In such cases what should be the benchmarks? How should the benchmarks be measured?” it asked.

It sought opinion regarding how to calculate call drop rate. It also raised concern over radio link timeout (RLT). “Do you think it is essential to mandate the TSPs to set the RLT parameter? If so what should be the criteria to set the value and the value that needs to be set.”

“Do you think calculation of customer satisfaction index will help in quality of experience of the consumer? If so elaborate the methodology of the calculation of such indexes. What are the latent variable that need to be defined and how are they to be calculated?” it also asked.

It further added: “What are your views on introducing a graded financial disincentives based on performance and what should be such quantum of financial disincentives for various parameters?”

“Customer satisfaction is the major determining factor in the emergence of new services, setting standards and designing of network. Therefore, the customer requirements and expectations are paramount consideration in reviewing quality of service standards irrespective of the technology that has been deployed in the network,” the regulator said.
